My work is inspired by the experience of ‘being out there’. Drawn to wild places, living in North Pennine hills, walking and painting expeditions to remote highland and island areas - these are the places of my drawings and paintings.

I need to be there, outdoors, braving the elements - working ‘on the spot’,. Here I love to watch the weather move and change and with the immediacy of paint and pastels, I respond rapidly to the thrill of a storm, the rage of the sea and wind or flight of sea bird winging past.

Recent creative projects have enabled me to combine my love of walking and painting outdoors, from tramping the upland moors of the local North Pennines, to backpacking the length of Britain. On the journey I sketch and paint, absorbing and responding to the unique place and weather I am in.
